Predestination: Conclusion

Because of the complex nature of predestination and the need to see the harmony of the whole counsel of God, this topic is addressed in four parts:

1. What is the biblical definition of predestination? 

2. Can we impact our own predestination? 

3. How does predestination impact evangelism? 

4. What about Romans 9?

Conclusion

When a person accepts Reformed Theology's definition of predestination, a very subtle but dangerous chain reaction occurs. 

1. God's plan of salvation is compromised.

Baptism into Christ (Romans 6:3-4) slips from being an urgent step (Acts 22:16, "and now what are you waiting for?", NIV) which is taken for the purpose of salvation (Acts 2:38, "for the forgiveness of your sins", NIV) into a convenient, post-salvation publicity event that is performed as an "outward sign of an inward grace." The biblical example of a death, burial and resurrection, for the purpose of removing sin, is replaced with the undocumented human command to say the sinner's prayer. 

2. God's plan for evangelism is compromised.

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) and the example of Christ to "seek and save the lost" (Luke 19:10, NIV) slips into non-confrontational sermons and mission trips that are dominated by humanitarian efforts. The double-edged sword of God's Word is made dull by the ear tickling messages of a grace without responsibility. 

3. God's plan for eternal security is compromised.

The certainty (1 John 5:13, "that you may know", NIV) which John says is based upon us choosing to remain in the light (1John 1:7) slips into uncertain assumptions about being part of the elect. The biblical evidence of a Christian life (1 John 2:5, "obeys his word", NIV) is supplemented, and even filtered, through the quotes of famous Reformation leaders. 

The list goes on, but these are three of the primary reasons I grieve over the great falling away that is now occurring within Christendom. 

2 Peter 3:17-19 (NIV) "Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen." 

I pray that this study has prompted you to step carefully, study deeply and rely solely on the holy Word of God. Only by accepting the harmony of the whole counsel of God can this subject of predestination be appropriately applied in our lives.
